The 2023 San Francisco World Spirits Competition has announced their winners, and we are pleased to announce that The Clover Straight Bourbon Whiskey has been awarded the honor of Double Gold. Praised for its full-bodied and well-balanced flavor completed with a soft, lingering finish, this is the award-winning expression’s fifth title in recent years.

Founded in 2000, the San Francisco World Spirits Competition was originally created as a way to recognize exceptional products in the spirits industry. It is part of the Tasting Alliance and is now considered the largest and most prestigious spirits competition in the world with around 5,000 entries, over 40 judges, and the involvement of many industry experts and tastemakers.

The judging panel consists of the most respected and experienced experts in the industry. Anthony Dias Blue is the founder and executive director of the SFWSC and is considered a leading food, wine, and lifestyle authority globally. The publication of over 9 books, James Beard Awards for food and wine critiques, and Editor-in-Chief roles at Bon Appetit, The Tasting Panel Magazine, and The SOMM Journal are just some of Blue’s many achievements. Jeffrey Morgenthaler serves as the Director of Judging and has received accolades such as America’s Bartender of the Year and the country’s Best Cocktail and Spirits Writer at the 2016 Spirited Awards. 

This is not the Bobby Jones Whiskey Collection’s first time being honored by the Tasting Alliance. The Clover Straight Rye Whiskey was awarded a Gold medal by panelists at the 2022 New York World Spirits Competition (NYWSC), hosted by the prestigious organization’s New York branch. According to the experts at The Tasting Alliance, “products awarded a Gold medal are exceptional. They are near the pinnacle of achievement in their particular category. They are products that set the standard for all others of their type.” The distinction of Double Gold is “awarded to the very few entries that receive Gold medal ratings by all members of the judging panel.
