Tiger Woods Named 2024 Bob Jones Award Recipient
Golf championships are often determined by breathtaking moments on the green that decide the fate of their winners. But for the highest honor awarded in golf, we recognize lifetimes of excellence that elevate mere champions to undeniable legends.
Presented annually since 1955 by the USGA, the Bob Jones Award recognizes individuals who demonstrate the spirit, personal character, and respect for the game that Bobby Jones himself epitomized in his lifetime. Tiger Woods, a titan of the fairways, is the 2024 recipient of this unparalleled accolade.
Much like the award’s namesake, Woods has left an indelible mark on the game of golf. Jones and Woods are the only two golfers to have won nine USGA titles in history. Both men were recognized early on in their careers as amateur golfers, with Woods claiming three consecutive U.S. Junior Amateur titles (1991-93) and three consecutive U.S. Amateurs (1994-1996). Woods would eventually turn pro and go on to claim 82 official PGA Tour event wins, tying with Sam Snead for the most tour wins ever.
His philanthropic work through the TGR Foundation, an organization that he began with his father in 1996, offers college and career preparation as well as STEM-based experiential learning for students.
In receiving this accolade, Woods joins a select fellowship of golfing luminaries including Jack Nicklaus, Arnold Palmer, Ben Hogan, Nancy Lopez, and Annika Sorenstam to name a few. Woods stated that “Bob Jones was a pillar of our game because of the integrity with which he played it, and I’m truly humbled to receive the award that bears his name and join the many who have received it before me who continue his legacy.”
In the USGA’s announcement Fred Perpall, USGA president, said of their decision to recognize Woods this year that “his impact on the game is incalculable, and there is no doubt that golf would not be the same without Tiger in it.”
We’d like to think that Tiger celebrated this momentous win with a pour of Bobby Jones’ The Clover, as seen in his 2020 home office tour with Golf Digest shown below. Join us in raising a glass of The Clover in honor of Woods’ Bob Jones Award recognition, and to both men who were nothing short of living legends in their respective times.
